All about the BMW 3 series Convertible
Jan 12, 2012
Like the other models in the BMW 3 series range of cars, the Convertible offers potential buyers an excellent engine choice, which includes two four cylinder engine options – the 320i and the 335i turbocharged engine – which provides lightning fast propulsion. In the six cylinder engine area, there is the choice of the325i and 330i petrol engines and the 320d, 325d and 330d diesel-based ones. When it comes to the transmission, potential buyers have a choice of six speed manual and auto options, as well as the seven speed, twin clutch transmission, which is available only with 335i engine models.
The roof on the BWM 3 series convertibles is a folding metal one, which together with the 160 extra kilos of overall body stiffening, means that the BMW 3 series Convertible is a seriously weighty car. Despite this, it retains much of the driving responsiveness that the 3 series range has become noted for. The suspension is not quite as firm as that provided by other models in the BMW 3 series – such as the Saloon and Touring models – but this does not negatively affect the overall balance of the driving experience to any great extent. In terms of noise, it can clearly be seen why BMW opted for a metal folding roof, rather than the standard soft-top utilised with most convertibles. With the roof up, the 3 series Convertible is as impervious to noise and weather as any other car. However, if you do opt to have the roof (and windows) down, you will still encounter little in the way of distracting road and engine noise, to spoil the driving experience.
The 3 series Convertible can be found new and used from all of the normal car buying outlets as well as via online outlets such as the database of new and used cars – motors.co.uk.
